Hi, my name is Camden Vaughan, I am the founder of Big Boat. I wanted to introduce myself out the gate instead of writing this whole statement in the third person despite being the only real employee of Big Boat. So a quick blurb about me, I grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, and most of my youth was spent as a competive Wakeboarder, but when I was inside I was glued in front of our family computer. I was always curious so not long after discovering the internet I was trying to figure out how I could make my own website, but it was still a long time before I got to the point of considering it as any professional path. So when it came to college I moved to Orlando, Florida, partly for college and partly to pursue a career as a profesional Wakeboarer. But for school I went to Unversity of Central Florida and studied film, but once I was too far into my degree I took a basic computer programming elective, and started to really love the world of Computer Science. I finished my film degree but took as many programming courses as I could and filled as much of my free time with learning about mostly Game Development, which started me on the track of starting Big Boat.
Origins
Big Boat was founded in February of 2023, but I started thinking it up in 2020 when I began to make Indie Games. I wanted to hold off on formally starting it till I had some type of commercial release, and in 2022 I was contracted to make Smixed, a word puzzle game designed by Youtopian Games. So towards the end of development I officially formed Big Boat as Game Development Studio. I had planned to get started on my own game after but first I needed to make a website for Big Boat. So I made one, and found myself enjoying that process even more than I liked making games, so I put off this “next game” and redid my personal website and blog. But then I started looking for more websites to build, and before I knew it Big Boat was no longer focused on Game Development but Web Development.
Why Is It Called Big Boat?
Honestly, the main reason is just that I think it sounds like a cool name for a company. But aside from that, boats have been a pretty large part of my life. My family spent most weekends at the lake, doing watersports, swimming or just riding in the boat. And for me, these things led to so much more, countless friends, letting me travel the country for wakeboard competitions, and it is even how I met my wife giving me my own family who I can bring to the lake. Also I loved the idea of calling it Big Boat but having the logo be a small boat…
